Infertility is defined as the inability to get pregnant after a one full year of trying to conceive. Approximately 6 million couples in the United States are affected by infertility and either male, female or both may have contributing cause.

Age is an important factor in determining when to seek testing and possible assistance in conceiving as most females are their most fertile in their late 20s and early 30s.

Treatment of infertility is dependent on the contributing cause. Treatment can be a combination of several medical pathways that may result in medication and surgery or a combination of both.

Some common contributing causes of infertility can be:

  • Abnormal structure of the uterus
  • Blocked fallopian tubes
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Ovulation disorder
  • Few or no sperm cells formed
  • Malformed sperms cells that die before they reach the egg

By allowing your physician to complete an exam, take a medical history to get a better understanding of lifestyle habits and conducting some base line tests; this will allow your physician to formulate a base line to work from in determining with you the best course of medical treatment to achieve your goal of conception.
